Reserved Words

From CodeCodex

Reserved words are words used by the language. In some cases these words cannot be used for any purpose (such as variable names) -- in other cases they can be used with an escape sequence (see: escape sequences and escape characters).

Java[edit]

In Java, reserved words cannot be used as variable names. When such a name would make sense, it is often written in a phonetically similar way -- for example, "class" is written "clazz".

MySQL[edit]

In MySQL, reserved words can generally be used as column or table names when they are properly escaped. Because escaping adds additional complexity to the SQL, it's generally advisable not to use reserved words as column or table names.
